Printed candle jars vs sticker labels: cost and lead time

Three clear glass EURO TECH candles with bamboo lids and sticker labels

A sticker label adds AED 5 per candle and takes about a week after artwork approval. A one-colour print on the jar adds AED 15 and takes 10 to 14 working days. Both are priced from 300 pieces, excluding VAT. Use stickers while the design is still changing and print once it is settled.

Our candles are hand-poured in Dubai, and we supply them to retail chains, distributors, hotel groups, gifting programmes and private label brands. Minimum order is 300 pieces per size, and a printed design needs the same 300, which several fragrances can share. Everything below comes from quoting and supplying those runs, not from a print shop price list.

Most buyers arrive with the marking decision already half made, usually by whoever answered fastest. It is worth an hour of attention. On our price list the gap between the two is AED 10 per candle at any quantity, so the real questions are how long the design will stay the same, where the candle will live and how much time is left before the handover.

The ways a candle jar gets branded

Our list has four ways to put a brand on the jar, and the jar finish underneath is part of the design.

  • Sticker labels. Your artwork on a label applied to the jar: the quickest option and the easiest to change between runs.
  • One-colour print on the jar. The logo goes directly onto the glass, so there is no label edge to lift.
  • 360° colour print. Colour artwork all the way around the jar, for a range where the jar itself carries the look.
  • Foil in gold, rose gold or silver.
  • The jar finish. Clear glass comes in all three sizes, matte black and frosted white in 200 and 300 ml; 100 ml is clear only. All three finishes are in the base price. Our NAKHLA exhibition gifts carried red branding on frosted glass, and the ORA developer gifts white geometric branding on the same base.
Method Per candle, excl. VAT After artwork approval
Sticker label +AED 5 about one week
One-colour print +AED 15 10 to 14 working days
360° colour print quoted to your design 10 to 14 working days
Foil quoted to your design confirmed with the quote

What branding adds to the candle price

Branding on our price list is a flat add-on per candle, on top of the base price. The base is from AED 70 for 100 ml, AED 90 for 200 ml and AED 110 for 300 ml, excluding VAT, from 300 pieces per size. It covers the jar in any of the three finishes (100 ml in clear only), a standard wick, soy wax, a bamboo lid or a silver or gold metal one, and one base fragrance.

A sticker adds AED 5 and a one-colour print adds AED 15, and the published list has no one-off setup charge for either. At list price a 200 ml candle comes to 90 + 5 = AED 95 with a sticker and 90 + 15 = AED 105 with a one-colour print, so print costs AED 10 more per candle whether you order 300 or 3,000.

The volume discount comes off the whole candle, branding included: 5% from 1,000 pieces, 7.5% from 3,000, 10% from 5,000. It takes the same percentage off the sticker candle and the printed one, so the gap narrows by that percentage and never closes. Break-even charts you may have seen elsewhere assume a setup fee per colour that gets spread over the run. A one-colour print on our list has no such fee, so there is no quantity at which print becomes cheaper than a sticker.

Colour artwork printed 360° around the jar and foil are quoted to your design. Packaging is its own line per candle: kraft box +AED 5, branded printed box +AED 15, fabric pouch +AED 3. The final price is worked out on your fragrance, jar design and packaging. Delivery within Dubai is included, elsewhere in the UAE it is free from 1,000 pieces, and for Saudi Arabia and the other GCC countries it is quoted on request. The conditions are on our pricing section.

What decides the choice on a real order

With the price gap fixed, the decision rests on four things.

Colours. One colour on the jar is the published AED 15. More colours, or artwork that runs all the way around the jar, take the job off the price list and onto a quote, so get that number before the design is signed off.

Fragrances per design. This is the lever buyers miss. Several fragrances can share one printed design, and the 300-piece minimum counts per design, not per scent, so a six-scent retail range can reach the print minimum together. The trade-off is that a shared print cannot name each scent, and the scent name has to go somewhere else, on the box for example.

Reorders. Since the one-colour print is priced per candle, a repeat order is priced exactly like the first: the same add-on per candle, with the discount set by the quantity of that order. What a reorder does carry is the lead time, 10 to 14 working days for printed jars after approval and about a week for stickers. Place printed reorders while there is still stock on the shelf.

Size mix. Each size carries its own 300-piece minimum, so a printed range in 200 and 300 ml starts at 600 candles, and the logo has to be sized for each jar. The 100 ml jar is clear glass only, so a matte black or frosted range either adds the small size in clear or leaves it out.

Lead time and the seasonal calendar

Printing on the jar takes 10 to 14 working days after the artwork is approved. Stickers take about a week. Neither clock starts at the moment you send us a logo. Expedited production is possible by agreement, but plan on the standard times.

The sequence is brief, artwork, sample, approval, production. A sample costs AED 100 with a sticker or AED 250 as a printed jar, and either is credited against an order from 300 pieces, so the cost of checking is not a reason to skip it. Payment is 50% to start and 50% before dispatch. Approval is where most delay happens, usually because the artwork goes to a second person inside the client's company who has opinions about the colour.

For a seasonal programme, work backwards from the date the candles have to be in hand. Our seasonal calendar asks for the brief five weeks before the handover for a logo printed on the jar and three weeks before it for labels in the collection design; for retail shelves, plan the delivery three weeks before the day. Miss the print date and the choice narrows to labels or to next season. Ramadan and Eid are the tightest of these, because the dates move every year and every gifting programme in the region works to the same few weeks; we wrote about that season separately in our Ramadan and Eid wholesale guide.

How print and labels hold up in the UAE

A candle jar in a hotel bathroom or a spa treatment room lives in humidity every day. A jar on a retail shelf gets handled. Cartons sit in a warehouse and travel in a van in August. The marking has to hold through all of it.

A print on the glass has no edge and no paper. Water, oil and a wipe with cleaning product have nothing to get under, which is why print is the safer choice for hotel rooms, spas and anything else that gets cleaned every day.

A sticker depends on its material and its adhesive. Paper softens at the corners in a humid room, and a label that meets candle oil during handling tends to lift from the edge inward. If stickered candles are going into bathrooms or spas, say so in the brief, ask which label material we propose for that use, and check the sample label in the same conditions before you approve the run.

In transit and in storage, keep cartons out of direct sun whichever marking you choose.

When a sticker is honestly the better call

A sticker is faster, AED 10 cheaper per candle and easier to change. Take it when:

  • the run has to ship and there is no room for a 10 to 14 working day print window;
  • you are testing a collection and expect to change it after the first season;
  • the design changes per client, which is normal for gifting companies running several accounts;
  • there is a date or an event name on the label that will be wrong next year;
  • the order is under 300 pieces: sticker runs that size can be agreed individually, while a printed design needs 300.

A pilot on stickers costs less to be wrong about, and first collections often need a second version.

When only printed glass works

Printed glass earns its extra AED 10 on anything permanent: a retail line that a chain will stock for two years, a hotel group putting the same jar in rooms and spa, a gift going to a chairman or a landlord, a product that gets photographed for a shelf or a catalogue. Our Maison Morganti retail collection, more than 1,000 candles, went this way: contrasting jar colours, fragrance-specific branding and matching printed boxes. On a line like that the jar is part of the product, and a label that curls at the corner in month five costs more in returns and reputation than the print does.

Changing the artwork afterwards

A new sticker design for the next run takes about a week after approval. A new printed design needs its own 300 pieces and 10 to 14 working days. Either way, candles already made keep the old design, so the cheap moment to change your mind is the sample. Check the logo size on the actual curve of the jar, the colour against the actual glass, and how the mark reads from two metres away on a shelf rather than at 100% on a screen.

Matte black and frosted white behave very differently under the same ink. A white logo that reads boldly on matte black needs more weight on frosted white, where the contrast is lower. That is a five-minute discovery on a sample and an expensive one on 2,000 finished units.

Which option fits which buyer

For a retail chain, print makes sense once the line is confirmed, often after a sticker pilot. The pilot answers whether the fragrance sells; the printed version is what sits on the shelf for the next two years.

Distributors have good reason to prefer printed glass, because they carry the stock and cannot afford labels lifting in a warehouse or in a customer's returns. They also reorder, and a design that stays the same order after order is what print is for.

Hotel groups have the strongest case for printed glass. Rooms, spa and F&B all see moisture and cleaning staff, and the brand team wants the same jar in every one of them. Frosted white glass with a one-colour print, the same base as our ORA developer gifts, is a sensible starting specification.

Corporate gifting programmes go both ways. EURO TECH took 500 candles in clear jars with bamboo lids and sticker labels; NAKHLA took 500 frosted candles with red print for an exhibition. A company running an annual programme across clients and staff often starts on stickers and moves to print once the design stops changing.

What to send us for a quote in one round

A quote usually needs a second round when something on this list is missing:

  • the logo in vector format (AI, EPS or PDF), not a JPG from a presentation deck;
  • exact colours, Pantone references if you have them;
  • sticker or print, and how many colours the artwork uses;
  • jar size and finish: 100 ml in clear glass, 200 or 300 ml in clear, matte black or frosted white;
  • quantity per size, and how many fragrances share the same design;
  • the date the candles need to be in your hands, not the date you want to order;
  • packaging, if any, and where it ships.

Send that and we come back with a number and a production date. The quote form takes the same information, or send it to us on WhatsApp at +971 55 281 9889 if the files are large.

FAQ

What is the best way to brand candles for a wholesale order?

For a short or first run, a sticker label at AED 5 per candle. For a permanent line, a print on the glass at AED 15 for one colour. The dividing question is how long the design will stay unchanged and where the candle will live, because quantity does not change which option is cheaper.

How long does printing on the jar take compared with stickers?

Printing on the jar takes 10 to 14 working days after artwork approval. Stickers take about a week. Add the sample and the approval round before either. For seasonal orders our calendar asks for the brief five weeks before the handover for a printed logo and three weeks for labels in the collection design. Expedited production is possible by agreement.

Do sticker labels fade or peel in UAE heat?

They can, if the label material does not suit the place the candle lives. Paper softens at the corners in a bathroom or spa, and oil from handling lifts an edge. Tell us where the candles are going, check the sample label in those conditions, and keep cartons out of direct sun in transit. A print on the glass has no edge and no paper, so the question does not arise.

What is the minimum quantity for printing directly on glass?

Three hundred pieces per size, the same as our minimum order, and the print minimum counts per design rather than per fragrance. Several scents can run behind one printed jar, which is how a scent range reaches the minimum without 300 of each fragrance. Sticker orders below 300 can be discussed individually; a printed design cannot go below 300.

Is printing on the jar worth it, or should we stay with labels?

On our published prices a one-colour print is AED 15 per candle and a sticker AED 5, from 300 pieces and excluding VAT. With no setup charge and the same volume discount on both, a bigger order does not tip the balance. Print is worth the extra AED 10 when the design is settled and the jar will face moisture, daily handling or a long stay on a retail shelf. Stay with labels while the design is changing or the date is too close for 10 to 14 working days. Send us the artwork and the quantity and we will price both.
